Today we share with you Michael Logie’s contribution to the Spoken Word Competition organised by the CCSJ and the Youth Commission.

He won second prize. Look out for the twist at the end. Here is another example of the way in which many of our young people are using their wordsmith skills/talents to express themselves.
There are many, like Michael, who’ve heeded Pope Francis’ advice given on World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland, in July 2016. Inter alia, he said: “it is…hard, and troubling, to see young people who waste their lives looking for thrills or a feeling of being alive by taking dark paths, and in the end having to pay for it – and pay dearly. It is disturbing to see young people squandering some of the best years of their lives, wasting their energies running after peddlers of fond illusions…who rob you of what is best in you. So I ask you: Are you looking for empty thrills in life, or do you want to feel a power that can give you a lasting sense of life and fulfilment? Empty thrills or the power of grace?”

Man of Steal/Steel

The police was looking for this guy
Official reports out of the Ministry of National Security state,
He is sly, unarmed…dangerous and will do whatever it takes…to take
The police are asking that if you have information, immediately contact your nearest police station or 800-TIPS
The suspect?
You will never suspect
This man once stole bad luck from karma
This man will steal from your 40 ft avocado tree without a ladder
For fun, this man could steal the funds out of a treasury, bank or credit union
For fun, this man could steal the body and blood of Christ during communion
This man could steal the beard off your chin
This man could steal the Nike sign off of your shoes while you’re walking
This man could steal the dentures out an old person mouth when they’re talking
This man gets confused when he sees Rattans has a sign saying steal of a deal
It’s almost like he had super powers the way this man could steal
So much so that people used to call him man of steal
You think it’s bad when people ‘tiefing’ your internet
He must be even steal that and your cable box and you ain’t even notice yet
This guy does lie sometimes, every now and then
So he could easily beat a lie detector test or even outsmart the three wise men
With his conniving ways
He could even steal your ham out your oven on Christmas day
Ladies, you feel he could steal from you?
He will even creep into your bedroom and make his way with your Victoria Secret perfume
Men, he could steal your cologne
He could steal the (electric sound) electricity out your house and treat it as his own.
Your car park outside, he will steal, pop your bonnet and steal your battery and go
Hold on to your pockets because he will steal the battery and sim card out of your Galaxy smart phone
This man, could even steal the power out of the microphone

Look that bulb sparking
Ha!Ha!Ha!… I see that some of you all turned behind
And that is just a sign that this guy could even steal your mind
The police is looking for this guy
But who is he
What if I told you, that this guy was me
You might want to safeguard your belongings
Probably shun me and take away my sense of belonging
You might in turn, turn away and proceed to Crime Stoppers to turn me in,
all because now you know now I thief all them thing
And you may be thinking; like this guy dunce
But I don’t care because only the Holy Spirit can give me guidance
So my sins and hymns were sent to him
It took one night of no sleep
2 nights of counting sheep
3 nights of constant Our Fathers and Hail Marys
And 4 nights until I realised that his love is not finite
So I’d continue to live the fine life of a saved servant
From now, till I return to the dust and then back to the heavens

The police are no longer looking for this guy
It is said that he turned himself in,

To the Lord.
